FISD Board

The seven-member Frisco ISD Board of Trustees is our district’s policy-making body. While it is comprised of individuals, it acts officially only as a group. The FISD Board works with the Superintendent and staff to set the direction of the school district with the education and well being of school children as its primary focus. The Board members are elected at-large by the citizens in FISD to three-year, staggered terms. They not only represent the public, but also translate the needs of students into policies, goals and strategies that reflect the standards and values of the community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring and evaluating the Superintendent; approving the district’s budget; establishing goals and evaluating results; levying taxes and issuing bonds; ordering elections; and communicating with the community.
In September 2008, during the Second General Session of the annual convention of the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards in Dallas, the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees was announced as the Outstanding School Board in the State. The members of the award winning board are (left to right) Cindy DePaolantonio, Richard Beaver, Brenda Polk, Dan Mossakowski, Renée Ehmke, Buddy Minett and Laura Ellison.
The board was selected from among the five finalist boards following interview sessions on Friday. Superintendent Rick Reedy addressed the nomination committee Friday commenting that he nominated the board because they are adept at handling change, focused on student achievement, strong and unbending on matters of principle, and a group of people that inspires the entire district. He also noted that the board members are champions of all learners. Reedy expressed his pride that the board had supported the district in its attempt to narrow the gap between the low income learners and other subgroups. That gap has narrowed substantially in the last few years.
