Hobbies: Genealogy and Frisco Heritage
Aside from serving on the Frisco ISD School Board and and spending time with my family and all of their activities, I have two other hobbies which occupy a lot of my time.
- I currently serve as the webmaster for the Heritage Association of Frisco. The Heritage Association organized in 1998 and has a goal to “research, preserve and share” the town’s rich heritage. If you love history and have an appreciation of our past, then I strongly encourage you to get involved with the organization.
- As an adult, I became fascinated with genealogy research. To learn about your ancestors and relating it to what was happening in our world at the time certainly brings meaning to our history. If you are interested, here are a few of my favorite web sites:
- Start at the LDS Web Site. Not only can you search a lot of records, but you can also download the free Personal Ancestral File software to organize your information.
- Then go to RootsWeb.com to search records and family trees submitted by other researchers. You might strike it rich by exploring their WorldConnect Databases. Just be cautious though, because the quality of the information is totally dependent on the researcher and unfortunately they don't normally include their source information.
- A newer web site is FindAGrave.com. This can be helpful to fill in dates off of tombstone records.
- Eventually you will need access to census records and other source information. I believe that one of the best subscription sites is Ancestry.com.
- Finally, if you need links to other web sites then visit Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet. She has amassed a truly enormous collection of information that continues to grow daily.
